DCA has the potential to be a useful metabolic therapy in cancer care with several encouraging clinical trials. It was first used as a therapy for inborn errors of metabolism and is now an orphan drug throughout most of the world. Due to its effects on mitochondrial activity, it can create important alterations in cancer cell metabolism which can lead to apoptosis.
